An introduction to excerpts from Drew Frye’s ‘Circumnavigating the Delmarva Peninsula’
I can be pretty determined when I need to be. While scouring the web to find great Stiletto cruising stories I happened upon Drew Frye’s http://sail-delmarva.blogspot.com/ where you can read of his adventures aboard ‘Cherokee Sun’, his Stiletto 27. I immediately knew I must speak with Drew! Over the course of a few days I wrote comments on his blog trying to make a connection. Knowing he must be moderating comments, I shared my contact information and pleaded with him to respond back.
Of course he thought I was a spambot and never answered. So I became even more determined, and used top notch sleuthing to track down Drew’s home phone number. With serious trepidation and a nervous cracking in my voice, I dialed the number. Drew’s wife nicely answered and I explained that I was calling from Stiletto Manufacturing and would like to speak with Drew about his adventures on Cherokee Sun. Silence for a few second, “Who are you again?”.
Lucky to get through the wife filter, Drew came to the phone and quickly asked me the same questions all over again trying to reconcile my NC location to Stiletto Catamarans in Florida. I explained about the upcoming new boat launch and, once properly vetted, I made my plea – “Drew, your writing is lovely and your stories about cruising on Cherokee Sun are amazing. Can I use some of that adventure on the new SailStiletto.com site?”
Drew was kind enough to grant me permission to use excerpts from his book, ‘Circumnavigating the Delmarva Peninsula’, and to spend some time sharing some of his Stiletto story with me personally. His words are by far more eloquent than mine. So as introduction to the excerpts, I’ll leave you with these words of Drew’s:
“When Jessica and I started planning our trip around the Delmarva on Cherokee Sun we were treating this trip as a ‘once in a lifetime’ adventure, but it turns out we had such a great time and made so many memories during that first trip that we continued to do it summer after summer. Those are some of our most treasured times – sailing, exploring, adventuring together”
